In what order should I measure the positions? And what about distances between measurement points?
Start with the main position (sweet spot). After that you are free to measure the rest of all the positions in any order you would like.
The most important measurement is the first, which is used to assign gains and delays. The others can be in different positions at different heights, but not necessarily as shown in our images.
It is suggested to avoid positioning the mic at a point where an object is interposed between the mic and the speaker, or placing it too close to a wall.
A wider distance among the measurement points implies a less aggressive correction, meaning the room reflections will be less attenuated. Those reflections can be pleasant, though, even if artificial (they are not present in the recording), as they can create a wider soundstage.
Tighter mic positions will instead provide more focused correction and imaging, but the measurement points should be at least 30 cm (12 in) apart.
Too small a space will result in over-compensation, which can sound dry and dull.
