System requirements for Active Room Treatment (ART) in Dirac Live Processor

System requirements for ART in DLP

Windows 11 or macOS 11 or later are required

Windows 11

Modern computer — Intel Core Ultra 7 155H @ 1.4GHz (released 2026)

16-channel full-support: 10–30% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

16-channel half-support: 5–20% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

Older computer — Intel Core i7-5500U @ 2.40GHz (released 2015)

16-channel full-support: 35–65% CPU usage on one core. ⚠️ Could cause noise artifacts. → Test your computer with a free trial!

16-channel half-support: 30–45% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

macOS 11 or later

Modern computer — Apple M2 Pro (10-core, released 2023)

16-channel full-support: 40–44% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

16-channel half-support: ~27% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

Older computer — Intel Core i7 (6-core, released 2018)

16-channel full-support: ~54% CPU usage on one core. ⚠️ Could cause noise artifacts. → Test your computer with a free trial!

16-channel half-support: ~40% CPU usage on one core. ✅ Should work fine.

How should I read the benchmarks?

Usually, you would have a stereo or "normal" surround system with zero or more subwoofers, very rarely reaching a channel count of 10 or more. Therefore, most computers running Windows 11, macOS 11, or later, should be fine to use with maximal ART support assignment in most cases.

Both Bass Control and Room Correction will use substantially less CPU than ART, so if your computer works for ART, it will work for RC and BC too.

If you are unsure of your computer's ability to deliver the necessary performance for your system configuration, then always start with a free trial!

If and when you run a trial to test the performance, have in mind that your computer will be loaded with other simultaneous tasks, so make sure to set it up as you would in fact use it with Dirac Live Processor.

You can also compare your computer’s CPU to those we have benchmarked, using a CPU benchmark score table on the web.

What are the benchmarks?
We have set up Dirac Live Processor with a 9.1.6 benchmark system for ART, which would be the "worst case" for using ART in a 16x16 system (16 input channels and 16 speakers).

16-channel full-support benchmark
All 16 speakers have been assigned to provide ART support for all 16 input channels.

This configuration we use only for this processing benchmark. We don't recommend it in general because all speakers would usually not be capable of producing bass and thereby not be suitable for providing ART support.

16-channel half-support benchmark
8 of the 16 speakers have been assigned to provide ART support to all 16 input channels.

This configuration corresponds to Dirac's minimum requirements for devices supporting ART.

This configuration reduces the CPU usage with about 1/3 compared to the “16-channel full-support” benchmark, both on Windows and macOS computers.
